I drove down to Mission Beach, taking some pictures of the historical Roller Coaster there and ended up in Pacific Beach towards the evening. I was trying to get some Sunset shots. I’ve been to the place before and I had some good memories. So I figure why not. To capture the sunset at this time of year, I had to go down a stair case and make a right along the cliff.

The beach is not sandy at all,  in fact there is nothing but rocks of various sizes all over the place.  I stumbled around on top of the rocks and slipped several times, hoping nobody was watching me as I tried to get to the spot I had been previously  and got some decent shots. Finally, I  got to my destination and what you’d  know, not a cloud in sight and the sun was just about 5 minutes away from disappearing below the horizon.

I noticed a few bumps and scratches on my leg and some blood on my big toe and figured, well, maybe I should head back to the stair case. On my way back, about half way down, I met a young man sitting on the rocks watching the sunset. We conversed for a little while and he told me that this area used to be a gunnery during World War II. I was wondering about all the concrete and other man-made objects that are scattered all over at that spot. After the war ended, the Government tore the whole thing down, thus so many remnants of the former gunnery.

Well, I made it safely back to the stairs and  set up my camera to get at least a couple of shot for the night. Here is the one of the shots I got, a view towards Pacific Beach and the Crystal Pier. It was a pretty nice evening after all. I met some people at the place I was taking the picture and we had a pleasant conversation.

That is another reason I love to go out and take pictures, the scenery, the fresh air and the people who I meet on my outings. Always fascinating and exiting to talk to people and have some fun. Reminds of a time when things were like that, when people still had the time to say hi and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.
