The famous Del opened in February 1888 and was declared a Historic Landmark in 1977. The Hotel was also the first with electricity, thanks to Thomas Edison.
Hollywood also used the Hotel in the movie “Some like it hot” with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The Del Coronado has a very interesting and rich history. A must see when in San Diego.
There are two ways to visit Coronado Island. There is the Ferry that leaves from the Harbor in Downtown San Diego, or with the car, driving across the famous Coronado Bridge which was finished in 1969. People used to pay a fee when crossing the bridge. I can’t remember how much it was, either 50 or 75 cents. It may have been as much as a Dollar. The money was collected to pay for the bridge. Coronado is a beautiful place and has much to offer.
