Hotel Del Coronado

The Del on Coronado Island, San Diego, CA

The famous Hotel on Coronado Island

The famous Del opened in February 1888 and was declared a Historic Landmark in 1977. The Hotel was also the first with electricity, thanks to Thomas Edison.

Hollywood also used the Hotel in the movie “Some like it hot” with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The Del Coronado has a very interesting and rich history. A must see when in San Diego.

There are two ways to visit Coronado Island. There is the Ferry that leaves from the Harbor in Downtown San Diego, or with the car, driving across the famous Coronado Bridge which was finished in 1969. People used to pay a fee when crossing the bridge. I can’t remember how much it was, either 50 or 75 cents. It may have been as much as a Dollar. The money was collected to pay for the bridge. Coronado is a beautiful place and has much to offer.

San Diego Skyline 2013

Taken from across the bay on Coronado Island

A view of Downtown San Diego from Coronado Island

I took this picture during lunch time while I was in Coronado. The area from which I took this picture is called Glorietta Bay. It has some shopping, hotels and restaurants, which attracts many tourist and San Diegans alike. Coronado also known for its Naval history and the Hotel Del Coronado among some beautiful beaches.

The famous Coronado Bridge allows people to drive to and from Coronado and is a landmark of sorts in San Diego. There is also a Ferry that arrives every 30 minutes taking people across the bay from either side. In this view, Seaport Village, another tourist attraction with its many stores and boutiques.

The Convention Center is right next to Seaport Village and host conventions like the San Diego Auto Show and Comic Con. San Diego has much to offer and this is just a small glimpse of what San Diego has to offer.
